Teen Crushes: Then and Now….

Last month Abby wrote a post featuring Halloween movies for the the faint of heart (check it out here) that made all of us giddy with nostalgia.

“Why?” you ask (or maybe not if you’ve read the post title).

Well, because it brought up all of those emotions associated with our hormone-surging, boy-crazy, preteen/teen selves.  Hearts encircled their names, their posters adorned our walls, we practiced writing their last names because we knew one day, one day we’d have that fairy tale meet-cute, and he’d see that us, me, you, and know that we, me, I was the one for him. That’s right, I’m talking about our teen crushes. The ones who made our hearts flutter and our pillows pucker up for a kiss.

So naturally we thought we’d blog about it. You know, see which of our teen crushes was still crushable. We polled the group, and these are some that we came up with, in no particular order.

Corey Haim

This is how I’ll always remember him. Forever young, forever missed. RIP.

Wil Wheaton

Love that he is still such a nerd AND that he seems like such a cool guy!

Ryan Lambert

Kids Incorporated was my show. I can’t even say the name without singing the theme song. And Monster Squad was pretty awesome too. Ryan just seemed like THE coolest.

Jordan Knight.

NKOTB was the very first group I ever saw in concertWhile my sister was a Joe fan, I was firmly “Team Jordan.”

Keifer Sutherland and Jason Patric.

I guess technically this is two submissions, but they’re kinda a package deal in my eyes. The Lost Boys will forever be one of our favorites.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Basketball Diaries was one of my favorite movies as a teen. In fact, I’ve loved most everything I’ve seen Leo in. So much talent.

Devon Sawa

The boy who started it all. We crushed so hard on Devon.

Rachel Bolan

Another beautiful musician to add to the list.

Mike Vitar.

Or, better known to some as Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez. My love for baseball players may have started with this movie (The Sandlot in case you didn’t know).

Brendan Fraser.

This one hurts, ya’ll. I loved Brendan so much, from Encino Man to Ink Heart. It makes me sad that this once beautiful man is now a meme. Chin up, Brendan!

What do you think? Are our crushes still crushable? Who’d we miss?

  1. Oh god, Leonardo DiCaprio was one of my first crushes!! Next to Nick Carter^^ That’s a cool topic! I liked Brandon Fraser but never crushed on him 😀 Same with Keifer Sutherland.

I had to look up Devon Sawa because he looks familiar and like he would have been high up on the DZ crush-list. That haircut in the early 90s did it for me 😀 (I looked him up: AND I DO KNOW HIM! THE GUY FROM CASPER AND LITTLE GIANTS!)

My first ever crush was David Bowie.. After I watched ‘Labyrinth’ for the first time! RIP David 😦

    1. Yes, that floppy 90’s hair! Gotta love it. Us talking about Casper and Devon Sawa is what led to us fangirling our teen crushes. Of course, we use pretty much any excuse to fangirl our mancrush harem 😉

The Goblin King 😦 Definitely a big part of my childhood. We watched Labyrinth in theaters fairly recently when it was part of the fathom movie events. Love those!

  2. Mine were Corey Haim and Corey Feldman, River Phoenix, Johnny Depp, Wil Wheaton, Lost Boys was definitely a fave (and all the cuties in it), Sean Astin, Duran Duran. Those are the ones I can think of right now. 🙂 Great list, Sam! I agree about Brendan Fraser. I loved him! His ex-wife screwed him in their divorce settlement and that was the beginning of his “downfall.” She took all his money, from what I read, and had a good lawyer. It’s kind of sad. I mean, I know she deserved some of it (they had a couple kids), but not as much as she got. – Shelly
