We’re fairly certain in our still mostly newb blogging status that this is about the time when some people share their favorite reads up to the midpoint of the year. We have read some marvelous novels this year. We’re breaking them up by new releases, ARCs, and, well, non-new releases. Here we go!
Most of those are a continuation of established series, except for LifeL1k3, Furyborn, and Shoot the Messenger. I loved them all. Dark Age was emotionally wrenching and dismally intriguing, but I expect nothing less from Pierce Brown. High Voltage will always hold a special place in my heart, and it made me cry. I get you, book. I love anything Jay Kristoff writes, so had little doubt I would lurve his new one.
These haven’t released yet (I think Nyxia Unleashed is soon – July, and it’s so good!). Foundryside was amazing. Here is my review: Foundryside (Founders #1) by Robert Jackson Bennett – ★★★★★.
The Ninth Rain is one of my all-time favorite books, ever. Four Psychos is the first in a hilarious, over the top reverse harem series. Blood Oath is Young Adult fantasy with a grumpy, sexy dragon shifter!
All of these were so good for completely different reasons. The Cruel Prince was one of those rare YA books I loved because the characters weren’t whiny. Loyalty was a mafia romance about mental illness. Why Kill the Innocent is the newest edition to one of my favorite series ever! Iron and Magic– Hugh d’Ambray is the MC. That alone makes it awesome.
Night and Silence is the best book I’ve read this year. It will be released in September. Check out my review here. Shadow’s Bane is the long awaited 4th book in the Dorina Basarab series.
Night Shift is a very short graphic novel about depression. Winter’s Reach was great but different than anything else Craig Schaefer has written. I don’t usually read contemporary fiction anymore but absolutely loved Still Alice. I warn you it’ll make you cry.
What are some of your favorites this year? Did you read any of the books we did?
